ISO 1182 (ASTM E136 Method B)- Non-Combustibility Testing
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) sets a high bar for the quality and safety of industrial processes. When it comes to maximizing fire safety for structure components, many industry leaders rely on the ISO 1182 (ASTM E136 Method B) test to deliver fast, accurate results. Building materials for construction, engineering and manufacturing applications need to meet certain standards so businesses can keep them up to date with regulations. ISO 1182 (ASTM E136 Method B) is a reliable form of non-combustibility testing.
At VTEC Laboratories, we perform carefully conditioned inspections to test flammability and non-combustibility for high-demand products. Our services span multiple industries. If you need support from professionals who understand the complexity of fire safety codes, we can provide the necessary experience and skill.
Your ISO 1182 (ASTM E136 Method B) Testing Partner
If a product you're working with is combustible, you need to be able to classify it as such. Ensuring safety in the workplace and keeping building materials up to standard with the proper fire codes is critical. That's why VTEC partners with industry leaders to help make sure their materials are suitable for their intended work environments.
The ISO 1182 (ASTM E136 Method B) test provides important data and insights about a product's response to an intense heat source. This is one of many fire safety inspections we offer for high-demand industries, and our team has extensive experience working in laboratories to calculate non-combustibility and flame risk. We've been providing inspections for flammability, chemicals, weathering and more since 1982.
We know current safety codes and classifications can be confusing for businesses to handle alone. When you choose us as your testing partner, we'll use the best practices to examine and classify your building components. As an ISO-accredited organization, we're authorized to provide third-party testing for major industries and projects.
What Is the ISO 1182 Non-Combustibility Test (ASTM E136 Method B)?
The ISO 1182 Non-Combustibility Test (ASTM E136 Method B) is designed to inspect a variety of building products, including insulation material, non-combustibility material and other homogeneous components. While these types of products are often protected against the dangers of combustion under high temperatures, the purpose of the ISO 1182 (ASTM E136 Method B) test is to determine the classification of these materials under European non-combustibility standards. This test is also required by the IMO for commercial marine applications.
When a building material is exposed to a temperature of 750 degrees Celsius, an ISO 1182 (ASTM E136 Method B) testing expert can determine whether the product belongs under A1 or A2 classification. A1 classified products are fully non-combustible, while A2 classified building products have low combustibility.
To conduct the test, one of our professionals places the product test specimen into a furnace at 750 degrees. Then, the professional measures potential combustion and flame duration after exposure to determine the level of non-combustibility. The rise in temperature, duration of flames and product loss indicate the non-combustibility of the material.
