FTIR Analysis
If your business relies on chemical testing, you need a reliable laboratory to perform Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). For FTIR analysis from trusted, accredited laboratories, turn to VTEC.
Why Choose VTEC Laboratories for FTIR Spectroscopy?
VTEC Laboratories is an ISO 17020, 17025 and 17065-accredited laboratory that adheres to the highest standards when it comes to spectroscopy. Our sophisticated sampling techniques and high-resolution instruments allow us to meet all ASTM, ISO and EU standards. You can be confident that our quality control is the most reliable in the business.
VTEC is well-known for reliable, accurate test results. We have been used by the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Coast Guard and the New York City Department of Transportation, among many others. Our highly trained technicians have the extensive experience to administer and read the results of FTIR analysis in our test labs.
What Is an FTIR Analysis and Why Do You Need It?
FTIR uses special optics to scan test materials and learn their chemical properties. We place a sample in an FTIR microscope and send infrared light and radiation into the material. The material absorbs some of the radiation while allowing other radiation to pass through.
The molecules of the test substance convert the radiation it absorbs into vibrational or rotational energy. This creates a spectrum signal that produces a unique "molecular fingerprint." The test administrator uses this "footprint" to generate data about the sample.
What Can You Learn From This Analysis?
FTIR analysis generates incredibly useful data. If you have a material that you do not recognize, FTIR analysis can tell you what it is. This testing can also identify additives once they are removed from a polymer matrix or find oxidation in a failure analysis investigation. Plus, this test can identify any contamination on or inside your material.
The FTIR is a key piece of equipment for "reverse engineering." VTEC does not just rely on the computerized matching with 100,000 signatures but can analyze the material based on peak recognition. This is the big difference between VTEC and other labs. VTEC can go that extra amount and interpret the output to suit the client's needs. When the output from the FTIR becomes complicated, VTEC can interpret.
There are numerous attachments that VTEC has for this new piece of equipment. For example, one such equipment is a 7m gas cell allows gases to be analyzed. The FTIR can analyze solids or liquids with KBr blocks for secure interpretations. The VTEC FTIR has aided clients in the cosmetics, paint/coatings, plastics, and environmental industries.
We use this analysis on polymers and organic materials, and can even determine the purity of inorganic materials. This method can be used to analyze solids, films, liquids or powders.
